Frequently Asked Questions
How do you handle pets with separation anxiety?
We take a compassionate, individualized approach to pets with separation anxiety at Camp Furry Paws. Before the stay, we encourage a pre-boarding visit where anxious pets can meet our staff and become familiar with our facility while their owners are present.
For first-time boarders with known anxiety, we recommend starting with shorter stays before progressing to longer periods. During their stay, we provide extra attention and reassurance to anxious pets through various techniques including:
- more frequent one-on-one interaction with staff
- strategic placement of their accommodations in quieter areas
- playing calming music
- providing extra comfort items from home with familiar scents
- and using natural calming aids when appropriate (with owner permission)
Our staff is trained to recognize signs of stress and anxiety and will adapt their approach based on what works best for each individual pet.
For severely anxious pets, we maintain regular communication with owners and may suggest a gradual acclimation program consisting of several daycare visits before an overnight stay. This patient, understanding approach helps most anxious pets adjust successfully to boarding.
